TruMelt

TruMelt uses only high-quality magnesium pellets and calcium flakes along with solar salt.  We offer all TruMelt ice-melt blends including 20% Mag, 12% Cal, 10% Mage, 3% Mag, Defender PLUS, Encapsulated salt, and Halite salt.

Calcium-Chloride-Pellets

Spherical shaped pellets, similar to BB’s, Calcium Chloride pellets work well in ice melt spreaders.  They work well in loosening thick snow and ice for easier shoveling and clearing.

Ice Melt FAQs:

  • Some kinds of Ice melt can negatively affect your hardscaping because water can run down into cracks in your hardscaping and freeze. It expands when it freezes, causing the cracks to get bigger.
  • By paying attention to the drainage near your hardscapes you can help this problem. Also, ice melts like calcium chloride are less damaging than others to concrete.
  • Ice melt can be made from many different materials like sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, calcium chloride, sodium acetate, and urea. Each type has pros and cons, so do your research before buying!
  • Calcium chloride is typically regarded as the best performing ice melt for fast melting and long-lasting action. 
  • Calcium chloride is generally considered the best ice melt for concrete.
  • Rock salt is a type of ice melt. Its technical name is sodium chloride, and it’s simply salt that comes from salt mines. Typically, rock salt is the cheapest ice melt available.
  • Sodium acetate and Urea are both considered environmentally friendly ice melts. They are not salt-based and do not contain chlorides, making them better for the environment than other alternatives.
  • Some ice melts can be toxic or irritating to your children or your pets. Some ice melts might cause chemical burns on your dog or cat's paws, or they might be harmful to your toddler if they are swallowed. Please follow all warnings and advisory notices on the ice melt product.
  • The best substance of melting ice depends on your scenario. Ice melts with low melting points will melt ice even in very cold situations. Ice melts with a long residual action last longer than others. Calcium chloride has one of the lowest melting points, though other ice melts have similar or longer residual action.
  • Hot water typically does melt ice - however, a rapid change of temperature on hardscapes can be bad for them. If you do choose to use hot water we recommend using only small amounts to begin thawing the ice. Finish the thawing process with an ice melt.
