Pellet fuel is a renewable, clean-burning and cost stable home heating alternative currently used throughout North America. Pellets are classified as "densified biomass fuel" and are made of renewable substances-generally recycled wood waste.

Hamer Pellet Fuel Co. uses clean sawdust from their lumber operations in the heart of the Appalachian Region of West Virginia.

Hamer focuses on providing the best value to the customer with their years of experience, high production capacity, and usage of only the finest raw materials in their wood pellets.

Wood Pellet FAQs:

  • It depends on the outdoor temperature, size of the house, what type of stove you have, and how hot you're burning the stove, but a 40 lb bag of wood pellets can provide up to 24 hours of heat.
  • This is dependent on how long your winters are! A good way to figure this out is to figure how many bags of pellets you burn per day and then estimate how long you will need to use your pellet stove. In many instances, 100-150 bags of pellets are needed throughout the winter.
  • The main thing to watch out for when storing wood pellets is moisture. If the pellets stay dry you should be able to keep them for several years. Make sure to keep them off of damp places like a concrete basement floor.
  • The benefit of firewood is that you can cut it yourself - however you do have the cost of a chainsaw and fuel, plus your labor so it’s not quite free. Directly comparing costs, pellets are slightly higher in price than wood - but they burn more efficiently. In the end, the cost to operate is similar.
  • Wood pellets are not toxic, though some companies may use chemical binding agents or additives in their pellets to help lower production costs. Also, just like with any wood, pellets emit carbon monoxide gas. The good news is that significant carbon monoxide exposure would require standing in smoke, burning at high heat, for hours. With a properly working chimney, you are in very little danger.
  • Not only are wood pellets sustainable and friendly to the environment, but the little bit of ash produced by your pellet stove can also be Earth-friendly, too. You can use the ash produced by your wood pellet stove to fertilize plants around your home and garden.
  • Wood pellets are not toxic, though some companies may use chemical binding agents or additives in their pellets to help lower production costs.
  • Absolutely! Look for pellets that have a moisture content below 10%. Also look for pellets that produce low amounts of ash (which means they burn cleaner) Keep your eyes alert for excess dust in your pellet bags as well. A 40-pound bag of pellets should have no more than 1/2 cup of dust at the bottom. Finally, try to choose wood pellets that don’t have any unnecessary additives.
  • Your premiums may increase if you have a wood-burning or pellet stove, but the increase is usually insignificant. Please check with your insurance provider for final details.
  • Wood pellets burn more cleanly and efficiently than firewood.
